ABOUT

By combining LN-CC’s storied past with its directional future, Gary has stripped the interior, recycled materials and reinvented the space through use of white throughout the space and reusing original materials to retain the heritage of the space. With his stark realist aesthetic, Gary was able to treat the space as an evolving set but with a more experimental approach, bringing in many new materials for the re-fit whilst managing to reuse elements. The main focus of the latest refurbishment was to make the space as functional as possible whilst retaining the store’s personality. By stripping away the natural hues that the wooden infrastructure previously offered, Gary has created a clean finish that is soaked in bright whites, a stark contrast to its previous version.

Taking into consideration the functionality of each room was important when re-working the rooms. The texturally rich space retains much of its impact through its concrete fabrication, whilst offering an improved use of space. Creating a room where texture, art and function can coexist through keeping the concrete as it was, made it one of the most effective ingredients in the room. Being mindful of sustainable responsibility, Gary utilises a number of recycled materials in the space, broken glass bottles in particular create a new texture in the third room, replacing the gravel that had been used before. Sprayed with silicone the glass appears matte, both rough and polished. Strip lights replace the hanging light structure, complementing the fabrication of the room and the product. With a grounded feel the room is calming, luxurious and comfortable but at the same time retains a stark contrasting atmosphere. The emotions evoked by the re-fit of the store have also shifted. The original space created an atmosphere of constantly changing temperatures, from warm and comfortable to cool and shaded, as you moved from space to space your senses were challenged. The new concept allows for a more precise and clear atmosphere. By making a bold statement with the latest refurbishment of the space, a new layer has been added to LN-CC’s concept. Yet the concept stays faithful and mindful of the store’s past by stripping the space back to its bones and recovered in a glaze of bright white, metal and concrete. The new visualisation is modern, emotive and utilitarian - emcompassing the experimental shipping experience championed by LN-CC.
